Micro-prism lenses do the correction optically. The prism in the lens aligns the visual axes so the eye muscles no longer have to. The strain disappears because the source of the strain is removed.

Vertical Heterophoria

What to Expect When Getting Prism Glasses

The Evaluation

Standard eye exams do not measure for the subtle misalignments that require prism correction. You need a specialized NeuroVisual evaluation that includes:

  • Maddox rod testing to quantify vertical and horizontal phoria
  • Trial prism lenses to assess symptom response
  • The BVDQ symptom questionnaire

The Prescription

Most patients adapt to prism lenses within a few days to two weeks. Some patients experience mild spatial distortion initially as the brain recalibrates. This is normal and resolves as adaptation occurs.
