Diagnostic Technology

The Latest Tools
for Clearer Answers.

Digital Retinal Imaging

High-resolution photography of your retina allows Dr. Payne to detect and monitor changes over time — without dilation in most cases.

Corneal Topography

Detailed 3D mapping of your corneal surface — essential for contact lens fitting, keratoconus screening, and refractive surgery co-management.

Rabin Cone Color Vision Testing

Advanced color vision testing using the Rabin Cone Contrast Test — the most sensitive clinical tool available for detecting color vision deficiencies, monitoring cone cell health, and identifying early signs of retinal and neurological disease.

Meibomian Gland Imaging

Infrared imaging of the oil-producing glands in your eyelids — the gold standard for diagnosing the root cause of dry eye disease.

Visual Field Testing

Comprehensive peripheral vision testing to detect early signs of glaucoma, neurological conditions, and other vision-threatening diseases.

Binocular Vision Analysis

Specialized testing to identify Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) — a common but frequently missed cause of headaches, dizziness, and reading difficulties.

Glaucoma Screening

No Puff.
No Anxiety.

We measure your eye pressure using the iCare tonometer — a modern, rebound-based device that measures intraocular pressure with a gentle, barely perceptible touch. No air puff. No numbing drops. No bracing yourself.

Eye pressure testing is a critical part of every comprehensive exam — elevated intraocular pressure is one of the primary risk factors for glaucoma, which can cause irreversible vision loss if left undetected. With the iCare tonometer, there is no reason to dread this part of your exam.

The iCare is especially well-suited for patients who have anxiety around the traditional air-puff test, children, and patients with sensitive eyes. Accurate, fast, and completely comfortable.

No Air Puff

The iCare uses rebound technology — a tiny probe makes a brief, gentle contact with the cornea. Patients rarely feel anything at all.

No Numbing Drops Required

Unlike Goldmann applanation tonometry, the iCare requires no anesthetic drops, making the process faster and more comfortable.

Clinically Accurate

The iCare tonometer is a validated, FDA-cleared device used in clinical practice worldwide and produces results comparable to traditional tonometry.

Ideal for All Ages

Comfortable enough for children and anxious patients — no need to hold still for an air blast or tolerate numbing drops.

Common Questions

Everything You
Need to Know.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Most adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every one to two years. If you have diabetes, a family history of glaucoma, or wear contact lenses, annual exams are recommended.

Do I need a separate exam for contact lenses?

Yes — a contact lens exam includes additional testing beyond a standard eye exam, including corneal measurements and a lens fitting evaluation. Your glasses prescription cannot be used directly for contacts.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Dr. Payne uses advanced digital retinal imaging that often eliminates the need for dilation. When dilation is clinically necessary, she will discuss it with you beforehand.

How long does an exam take?

A comprehensive exam typically takes 60–90 minutes, including time for frame selection with our opticians. Contact lens exams run 45–60 minutes.

Do you accept vision insurance?

We accept most major vision insurance plans. Please call our office to verify your specific coverage before your appointment.

Can children have exams at Trendsetter Eyewear?

Absolutely. Dr. Payne sees patients of all ages and recommends children's first eye exam by age 3, and annually once they begin school.
